The 23rd Annual Edition of Shark Week begins tonight on Discovery Channel. To kick things off, we will be delighted by Ultimate Air Jaws at 9pm. Shark expert Chris Fallows & filmmaker Jeff Kurr take us to Seal Island, off the coast of South Africa. Here we will witness close-up, the amazing explosion of great white sharks propelling themselves out of the water to snare a seal passing by. The footage is extraordinary. This is followed by Into the Shark Bite at 10pm.

Other “shark” shows will air all this week, in primetime, to celebrate the life & world of these fiercely predatory beasts. One in particular is Shark Bites: Adventures in Shark Week, on Wednesday at 10pm. CBS’s  Late Late Show host Craig Ferguson dons chain-mesh gloves to hand feed sharks in the Bahamas. He was, in fact, “Pretty scared because sharks are the most dangerous things in the ocean, apart from BP”.

The week ends Friday night with 10 Deadliest Sharks at 8pm, with MythBusters: Shark Special 2 following at 10pm. Our resident Busters, Adam & Jamie try to debunk such myths as whether chili powder repels sharks & the effects of magnets as a deterrent from attacks.

Are you excited? …or has this event run it’s course & we know enough about sharks already.
