AscenDance and three other acts, Alice Tan Ridley, Michael Grimm and Antonio Restivo, “ascended” to the semi-finals on last night’s episode of ‘America’s Got Talent.‘ It’s pretty easy to guess which act is going through to the next round when they’re brought up in groups of three. Still, Cheer SF had a huge fan base in the house.

Cirque du Soleil and Train pre-taped their segments, but the audience got to see them on a huge monitor in the middle of the stage. The hilarious warm up guy had fun with an audience member briefly: “Didn’t you see them up on stage?”

During a commercial break a ‘Deal or No Deal’ fan asked host/judge Howie Mandel to say, “When we come back…” The always-amenable Mandel complied.

Sharon Osbourne had the toughest job of the night choosing between Antonio Restivo, the fire/magic act and the dance group Wreckless, who came from a rough economic background. Howie and Piers Morgan’s votes split. But sometimes there’s no tie to break.

“I don’t know that the third judge always makes the call,” offers Mandel. “Piers went with his heart. The biggest surprise I had tonight was how right I was.”
