Neil Patrick Harris Saves Broadway
Looks like Neil Patrick Harris may be a genius after all.
The “Doogie Howser” child star must have brought his “How I Met Your Mother” and “Dr. Horrible” fans to last night’s Tony Award audience.
Broadway’s big night, hosted by Harris, was watched by 7.45 million people. Nielsen Media Research says that’s a 19 percent increase over last year’s show (6.27 million viewers), making it the biggest audience since 2006.
Elton John’s “Billy Elliott” proved to be the biggest winner of the night when it danced away with 10 statues, including Best Musical and Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical — shared by the three boys who play Billy.
And as for the biggest loser of the night? Well, he wasn’t even a nominee.
Poison frontman and “Rock of Love” star Bret Michaels walked away from the Tonys with a fractured nose and busted lip.
After opening the telecast with “Nothin’ But a Good Time” with Poison and the cast of “Rock of Ages,” a piece of scenery fell on Michaels as he was exiting the stage.
Bruised and bloody, Michaels laughed backstage while Harris joked that the singer “gave head banging a whole new meaning.” Watch the disaster below.
