Why is ‘20/20′ Devoting Two Whole Hours to ‘The Bachelor?’

Does ‘The Bachelor’ season ever really end? It seems that we get another special or two after the season finale. “After The Rose” specials, interviews with the contestants, behind the scenes specials, weddings. And this Monday we have another two-hour special titled ‘Inside The Bachelor: The Stories Behind The Rose,’ which will be a look at the history of the show and will include interviews with various contestants over the years, audition tapes, never before seen footage, and all of that other “behind the scenes” stuff.
What’s most baffling about this is that this isn’t just a ‘Bachelor’ special, it’s an episode of ‘20/20.’ Deborah Roberts and Chris Connelly will host the special. If ABC is going to have another special about ‘The Bachelor,’ why put it under the ‘20/20′ banner? Isn’t that going to make viewers not look at ‘20/20′ seriously again? Sure, it has never been ‘60 Minutes,’ but now it’s never going to be. I can’t imagine CBS having a two-hour ‘60 Minutes: Return to the Island’ special after the season finale of ‘Survivor.’

Chelsea Handler Bloodies Jimmy Fallon in Martini-Drenched Studio Race
I don’t think anyone should try to best Chelsea Handler when it comes to anything alcohol-related. Last night Handler and Jimmy Fallon raced around Fallon’s studio holding martinis and it didn’t end well. Actually, Fallon could have been seriously injured if he had whacked his head on the floor. Still, he did indeed bleed.

Bravo Announces Most Depressing Line-Up in TV History
It’s always exciting when a cable network announces that they’re adding an a new night of programming. Or it can be exhausting, considering how much TV we all watch nowadays. With that in mind I think I’m glad that there’s probably nothing at all that I’ll want to watch on the fifth night of programming that Bravo is going to have later this year.
I mean, seriously, look at the shows that the network will have to choose from for this fifth night of programming. ‘Million Dollar Listing 4?’ ‘Tabatha’s Salon Takeover 3?’ ‘The Fashion Show 2?’ ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta 3?’ And those are just the returning shows.
New shows include ‘Pregnant in Heels’ (a reality show about a boutique that caters to pregnant women), ‘Miami Social Club,’ a look at rich, fashionable people who enjoy the “hot Miami scene,” and ‘Million Dollar Decorators,’ a reality show about the personal lives of interior designers who work on expensive homes.

Keri Russell Signs on For New FOX Sitcom
‘Arrested Development‘ fans are anxiously awaiting the release – actually, the filming – of the big screen ‘AD’ movie, but until then we might have a little bit of the show to enjoy. Creator Mitchell Hurwitz and star Will Arnett are doing a new sitcom pilot called ‘Wilde Kingdom’ and they’ve just added someone else to the cast.
Keri Russell has signed on to the show to play Arnett’s love interest, according to Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly. Arnett will play a rich, selfish guy who falls in love with Russell’s down-to-Earth character. James Vallely, one of the writers of ‘Arrested Development,’ is writing this show too.
We’ve talked about a lot of pilots and pilot casting recently and most of them we’ll never hear about again (most pilots don’t even make it to the air). But this is one show I can actually picture on the FOX schedule.

Preview of ‘In Plain Sight’s’ March 31st Premiere

Spring is definitely on the way, and not just because we’ll be spring forward with the clocks this weekend. No, it’s on TV that spring is busting out all over. ‘Army Wives’ is returning with a new season, ‘Glee’ is coming back to finish this season, even ‘Friday Night Lights’ will finally commence on NBC — after already having a complete run on DirecTV. One of the premieres that’s got me intrigued is the March 31st ‘In Plain Sight’ on USA Network.

Jerry Seinfeld to Fill In for Regis on ‘Live’ Tomorrow
For the longest time we didn’t see Jerry Seinfeld on TV at all but now he seems to be everywhere. Not only is he on NBC’s ‘The Marriage Ref’ (which he also produces), he’s now going to pinch hit for Regis Philbin on tomorrow’s edition of ‘Live with Regis & Kelly’ (or as Tom Hanks called it the other day, ‘Live with Regis & Kathie Lee’). Of course, it’s like Seinfeld never left TV because his sitcom is on various channels six times a day.
This will be Seinfeld’s first go at co-hosting the show. On a side note, is Regis OK? He seems to be taking several days off since his hip surgery. Hopefully this week is just a planned, ordinary vacation week and not something more serious. But this has been a good week for co-hosts, with Andy Richter yesterday and now Seinfeld.

What You Missed Last Night: Michael Emerson Reveals a ‘Lost’ Secret to Kimmel
I thought last night’s episode of ‘Lost’ was one of the best ever: exciting, unpredictable, with several developments that moves the story along and it even had a cliffhanger. Michael Emerson deserves an Emmy for this episode alone. He also showed up on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ to reveal, um, something. (Here’s the YouTube version if you can’t see what’s below.)

‘Mad Men’ to Become Ken and Barbie Dolls
If you can’t wait for season four of ‘Mad Men’ when it debuts later this year, Mattel can help you play ‘Mad Men’ and create your own stories. According to the New York Times, the toy company is creating versions of Barbie and Ken based on four ‘Mad Men’ characters – Don Draper, his wife Betty, Roger Sterling and Joan Harris.
If you want to play out Draper’s past, you can get a full-sized G.I. Joes and swap clothes. Or you can get a bunch of regular Barbies and have an office party and make them dance to the ‘Mad Men’ soundtrack.

TV 101: How ‘Lost’ Is Like a Loveless Marriage
For a lot of ‘Lost‘ fans, the only numbers that really matter anymore are 5, 23, and 10 – May 23rd of this year, the Dharma Train finally pulls into the station and we’ll find out once and for all whether the writers knew what they were doing.
It’s almost a certainty that you’re going to be disappointed. Had the show ended during its second or third season, I would have stocked up on flashlights, canned goods, and pornography to wait out the riots that surely would have followed some lame “not all questions are meant to be answered” kind of ending.
I’m not worried now because that kind of car-tipping passion just isn’t there anymore. For most fans, this last season marked the moment when our relationship with ‘Lost’ stopped being a love affair and started being a loveless marriage.
