Cast Talks ‘Guiding Light’ at Wrap Party

By RACHAEL SHAPIRO

“Most people hate their jobs, but this has been so much fun,” said Grant Aleksander (left, in 1999), who until Sept. 18 plays Phillip Spaulding on “Guiding Light,” (he has had the role on and off for 27 years) at the final wrap party for the longest running show in history. While buckets of tears were shed on Wednesday night at the Paley Center for Media, there were also plenty of laughs.

Running from 1937 on radio and hitting TV in 1952, “GL” is the only show to live long enough to have multigenerational characters and viewers, and only 200 fans were lucky enough to score tickets. The rest packed into a room and wept via closed circuit.

When asked about his least favorite story line, Michael O’Leary (Dr. Rick Bauer for 26 years) joked with real-life best pal Aleksander about a time long ago Rick was to give Phillip a stuffed lamb to remember him by since he was leaving town. Written into the script was a scene where Rick would throw the stuffed lamb at the wall in frustration that his best friend was leaving him, fall to the ground on his knees crying, and then proceed to surgically sew up the lamb (He is a doctor, after all.) “I was like, ‘Seriously, what’s with the lamb?’” he said. Laughing hysterically and patting his leg, Aleksander replied, “Reginald! The lamb! I wish he were here now!”

Kim Zimmer (right in 1987, Reva for 26 years) talked about what it was like doing the show in the ’80s: “It was fantastic! They had money to burn, baby! They’d spend $750 on a blouse. We had big everything — big hair, big shoulder pads…”

“And then there were the men,” chuckled Aleksander.

ATL ‘Wives’ Takin’ It to the Streets

File this under Best Clip of the Week…

When “The Real Housewives of Atlanta’s” Kim, Sheree and NeNe meet for dinner with intentions to patch up their deteriorating friendships, the sit-down does not play out exactly as planned.

Fast forward to Kim and Sheree hurling obscenities at each other on the streets of Atlanta, where Sheree makes a daring move — toward the wig on top of Kim’s head.

“I felt the need to tug on her wig,” explains a very calm Sheree after the fact. “I did not try to pull it off, I did not want to pull it off, I just wanted to shift it a little bit.”

Omarosa Entering a Seminary

omarosa_seminary.jpg

We wonder what Donald Trump will have to say about this.

Reality TV villain Omarosa, who came to fruition on the first season of “The Apprentice,” is entering a seminary to study for the ministry.

Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth is scheduled to begin her studies Monday at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio where she will spend close to two years pursuing a doctor of ministry degree.

The school’s associate dean Ivan Hicks believes that the Youngstown, Ohio, native’s dichotomy between good and bad will make her more relatable and, in turn, help her as a minister, according to the Associated Press.

Sounds like the basis for a reality show, if you ask us. What do you think?

Drama Mama: Why aren’t you ‘Mad’?

mad_men_season3_art.jpg

Don’t want to dig out your matching dark shirt-tie combos now that ABC has relaunched early 00′s bloated juggernaut “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” Let Drama Mama help. Here’s what to watch this week:

Mad Men” (Sunday, 10 p.m., AMC)
Everybody’s been telling you to watch it. So what’s been keeping you? It can’t be the impeccable ’60s period details, the drop-dead beauty of cast members like Jon Hamm and Christina Hendricks, or the decadent delight in recalling when everyone smoked and drank at the office. No, it’s probably the storytelling, which you’ve heard is slow-paced and contemplative, more complex than your average done-in-one crime drama. Well, let Mama put it in perspective. You remember the awesome episode that kicked off the final season of “The Sopranos,” when a friendly game at the cabin suddenly turned into a blood battle between Tony and Bobby, with Carmela and Janice looking on? Well, one of the guys who wrote that? Wrote this. Watch it. Your vegetables never tasted so good.

Kourtney Kardashian Reveals Baby Daddy

Kourtney Kardashian is pregnant and on-again boyfriend Scott Disick is the father.

The fact that Kourtney’s eggo is preggo comes as perplexing news to those who have been “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” as the oldest of the Kardashian girls broke up with Disick last year on the show.

But the 30-year-old reality star said she and Disick are “really happy” being together again on this morning’s “Today Show.”

We wonder how her December due date will effect the future of her and younger sister Khloe’s upcoming spinoff series, “Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami,” which premieres this Sunday at 10 p.m. on E!

Kate to Regis: My Marriage to Jon is Over

Kate Gosselin, who looked fresh-faced and sounded somber, slammed the door shut on her marriage with Jon on “Live With Regis and Kelly.”

After taking some of her own shots at the paparazzi, Kate took a few deep breaths and answered co-host Regis Philbin’s pressing questions about “Jon & Kate Plus 8″ and her and Jon.

“I think the separation is gonna come to an end and I think he’s gonna come back and he’s gonna say, ‘Please, marry me again,’ and I think you’re gonna live happily ever after,” says Philbin. “What do you think of that?”

“Wow,” Gosselin politely responded before assuring the new “8″ watcher, “I can’t say that I think you’re right, at all.”

“Anything that you see has been very much filtered… what you see is what I want my kids to see,” she said before disagreeing once again with Philbin, who believed that if the show went away so would the marital problems.
