American Idol Finale Open Thread: Was Season 9 The Worst Season Ever?
I hesitate to “blame” this recent American Idol Season for its widely-regarded lameness, partly because I watched less than a quarter of the season and feel unentitled to fully complain, but more so because it’s the ninth season of a reality show that would already grow extremely repetitive within its seasons, and a ninth straight year of something so already repetitive ended up being repetitive squared (mathematic proof/excuse for Season 9’s lameness done!)
In the season’s not-defense, the entire reason I watched so little of Season 9 was precisely because every time I clicked to Idol this year, something was happening that I did not want to see and I’d just click back away. Also, even if we toss out the “inevitable repetitiveness” argument, a lot of the contestants this year were just really objectively not that good.
What do the Idol masses think? Was Season 9 the worst season yet, as many have claimed, or has the cash cow not quite sailed over that cash shark just yet? Leave your Idol Season 9 thoughts in the comments.
Below, two more clips from the finale – First up, the weirdest moment of the finale, when Dane Cook performs a comedy song for Simon Cowell and gets interrupted by Ian Benardo (hrmm? x3)
After the jump, Bret Michaels Pulls An Idol Version Of The SNL “Walk Out Behind The Person Doing An Impression Of You”:
In short, the finale did have its moments, albeit if unintentionally watchable, but the finale wasn’t enough to rescue the 9th season of a franchise which, especially now with Simon Cowell leaving, I just can’t imagine sitting through any more.
