Launch My Line: Finally, the Finale! Oh wait…
Hey, did you all think we were just about done with this Launch My Line mess? With all that “finale” talk last week? Me too! But this bitch is broken down into two parts. We won’t have any idea WHO gets to launch their crappy line until next week. It makes me want to cry. But I persevere!
Review: Dollhouse – Epitaph Two (series finale)
(S02E13) What words can be used to describe Joss Whedon’s latest complete series on television? “Weird” is one. “Rushed” is another.
Granted, the show only had slightly more than a full season’s worth of episodes to establish itself (26 in all), but Dollhouse never really felt like something Joss really cogitated on and imagined from the bottom of his soul and thought through every detail. The series felt more like a favor he was doing for Eliza Dushku to prevent her from being typecast as a tough chick, with some clever bits thrown in.
Overall, the series wasn’t as good as his previous attempts, but still much better than 99% of the other crap on television. Major spoilers follow after the jump.

NBC gives Parks and Recreation an early renewal
There hasn’t been much to cheer about coming from NBC of late, unless you consider the upcoming Winter Olympics worth jumping up and down about, or you’ve been happy about Chuck‘s return. The Leno-Conan business has just been nasty, the resolution bungled and the prospects for new product unexciting.
But late Friday night something happened at the Peacock that is worth getting psyched about. NBC gave Parks and Recreation a season three renewal.
Like CBS’s vote of confidence renewal for How I Met Your Mother earlier this week, this was a great move by NBC and a sign that somebody at 30 Rock — the real NBC, not the Alec Baldwin/Tina Fey version — sees quality and has rewarded it.

Sunday’s SNL special to feature a healthy dose of Peyton Manning
Expect to see a lot of Peyton Manning this Sunday on SNL Presents: Sports All-Stars, according to Will Forte and Jason Sudeikis. Forte and Sudeikis are hosting the two-hour prime time show (Jan. 31, 9 p.m. EST) as Twinkle and Stink, their ESPN Classic sports announcer characters. All-Stars will feature the best of the show’s sports-related sketches from the vaults.
In a conference call with media earlier this week, Forte in particular was impressed with Manning, who will quarterback the Indianapolis Colts in the Super Bowl next week against the New Orleans Saints.

Flight of the Conchords co-creator to direct the Muppets
James Bobin has signed on to direct the new Muppet movie. Bobin co-created the television version of Flight of the Conchords (as opposed to the band itself, which was co-created by Jermaine Clement and Bret McKenzie).
So it’s a writer who has predominantly worked in television who is directing a movie about a group of characters who became famous from a television show. The movie itself is co-written by Jason Segel, star of How I Met Your Mother, who is rumored to be a Muppet-maniac. I’m still waiting for his Broadway production of Dracula, the Puppet Musical.
As a Muppet fan myself, I’m happy about this piece of news. I have enjoyed Bobin’s work on Da Ali G Show and Flight of the Conchords without being aware of his involvement. I just hope Bobin shows love and respect for the franchise and we don’t end up with another Muppets’ Wizard of Oz.

Here’s the Super Bowl ad that CBS rejected
Danny told you about a bunch of advocacy ads that will run during this year’s Super Bowl. But CBS has rejected an ad too, from the dating site ManCrunch.com. But thanks to the internet we can still see it. Here it is. It’s wicked gay.

Cindy Margolis is looking for love in Seducing Cindy
Here’s the first episode of the new FOX Reality Channel show Seducing Cindy (it debuts tomorrow night but Inside TV has an exclusive sneak peek). Margolis was the #1 girl on the web several years ago, and this new reality show will have a couple dozen guys vying for her affection.
I love how she’s looking for someone between the ages of 18 and 71 (why 71 and not 70 or 75?). So you could be Taylor Lautner or you could be Patrick Stewart and have an equal chance!

Coming to NBC: new shows about a superhero and customer service reps
NBC seems to be picking up a lot of pilots lately, and here are two more. Cape is about a cop who decides to become a superhero so he can clear his name and get back together with his son. It’s written by Tom Wheeler and will be produced by Lloyd Braun and Gail Berman. I’m surprised they didn’t just add the character to Heroes. He could have been Matt’s old partner or something.
Outsourced is about a guy who is transferred to India to become head of a customer service department. It’s based on a movie from a few years ago. Office director Ken Kwapis is going to direct the pilot.
On a side note, I chuckle every time I see the name Lloyd Braun attached to a project. That was the name of the character on Seinfeld who gave George all sorts of problems. He was named after the real Braun. I picture him at his desk, chewing weird gum, making decisions about TV shows.
