Review: Smallville – Disciple

smallville disciple(S0910) This was a halfway decent midseason premiere. I certainly wasn’t expecting that.

For Smallville, things usually start to drag around the midseason point. Then it’s like driving with the parking brake on until the season’s final three episodes arrive. But not this year.

This week’s solid entry and next week’s “Absolute Justice” event are signs that Smallville will sustain the momentum by giving fans exactly what they want – fun episodes that feed into ongoing story arcs, and plenty of geeky superhero action.

“Disciple” smartly nudged a few major plot threads forward, offered some sweet Lois & Clark moments, and delivered an entertaining self-contained story. Spoilers below.

Nick at Nite gets Fran for Nanny Valentine’s celebration

The_nanny_wedding_fran_max_cbsHow’s this for a romantic and funny way to celebrate Valentine’s Day: make it a week-long marathon of The Nanny episodes on Nick at Nite. What? That’s not red roses, Dove chocolates and champagne to you?

The idea of reliving the sitcom fun of the nanny named Fran blowing into the life of theatrical producer Maxwell Sheffield and falling in love with him while taking care of his three children was the stuff of television romance when it aired on CBS from 1993 to 1999.

Part The Sound of Music, part schmaltzy broad Jewish shtick, The Nanny was fun stuff. For this marathon, Fran herself, actress Fran Drescher will host the week which Nick has dubbed Valentine Schmalentine.

Review: Caprica – Rebirth

Zoe Graystone from SyFy's Caprica(S010O2) In one scene in the second episode of Caprica, Amanda Graystone holds a book that belonged to her daughter, called The Physics of Religion and Spirituality. The fact that she’s holding it at a memorial for the victims of a terrorist attack, while mourning her daughter, Zoe, is more than a little ironic.

We’ll start with the fact that the book was given to Amanda by the mother of Zoe’s boyfriend Ben, who strapped explosives to his chest and blew up the train in the name of one true god, killing Zoe and many others. When Amanda finds a religious symbol amongst the book and some photos, she is convinced that Zoe was part of the plot to bomb the train (she wasn’t, although she shared some of the religious views that led to it).

Important Info About Penis Dot Net

This may be the greatest and most urgent email we’ve ever received to our tips line:

I left the last part in just because “LLC” makes me laugh. The Penis.net people are making sure to maximize their tax-exemptions.

Also, the difference between 1 million Google searches for “penis” and 2.2 million Google searches for “penis” is astronomical — I had no idea there was such a wild month-to-month swing of amount of times people type “penis” into Google. I guess it depends on the weather — in the summer, it stays light out late, so I’m outside a lot, but in the winter, there’s literally nothing else to do besides going home and typing penis into Google.

Also also, our company would be interested in penis.net “for obvious reasons”? Which obvious reasons would those be? My overwhelming gayness or just my general enthusiasm for penises? If we’re gonna do business together, some clarity would be appreciated.

So yeah, long story short, anyone know a good place to get “CEO, Penis.net” business cards printed up?

Matthew McConaughey Classes It Up on the Beach For Once

Matthew McConaughey is famous for one thing… make that 12… his ABS. When not playing a bongo drum with his mind, one can often find McConaughey doing a number of crunches on the sand sans top. It’s his trademark.

But check out who has just graduated from Charleston School of Protocol and Etiquette…

That’s right! Matthew hasn’t just put on a shirt, he’s gone the whole nine yards in a pretty spiffy looking get up… But you know it’s a Fuxedo, right?

For sure. Check out the hot gallery pics ahead. [Photos via Splash News Online]
